Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Sumac website at getsumac.com and the Sumac mobile application (collectively, the "Service"), operated by Sumac ("we," "us," "our"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use Sumac.

Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use Sumac. If you are under 18, you must have parental or guardian consent. By using the Service, you represent that you meet these requirements.

Your Account

You sign in using Google Sign-In or Apple Sign-In. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials and for all activity under your account. Notify us immediately at support@getsumac.com if you suspect unauthorized access.

What You Can Do

Sumac grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service for your own personal, non-commercial cooking and recipe management. You may:

• Generate, adapt, save, and organize recipes.
• Use AI-powered recipe suggestions based on your preferences and ingredients.
• Share individual recipes with friends and family for personal use.
• Export your recipe data at any time.

What You Cannot Do

• Use automated tools to scrape, crawl, or bulk-download recipes from the Service.
• Resell, redistribute, or commercially republish AI-generated recipes as your own product.
• Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract the AI models or algorithms.
• Use the Service to generate content that is harmful, illegal, or violates the rights of others.
• Circumvent usage limits, authentication, or access controls.
• Impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation.

AI-Generated Content

Sumac uses artificial intelligence to generate and adapt recipes. While we strive for accuracy, AI-generated recipes are suggestions, not professional dietary or medical advice. You should:

• Verify allergens: Always check ingredient labels. Our allergen detection is a convenience, not a guarantee. If you have a serious allergy, verify every ingredient independently.
• Use your judgment: Cooking times, temperatures, and food safety depend on your equipment and ingredients. Use standard food safety practices.
• Nutrition estimates: Nutritional information is estimated and may vary based on actual ingredients and portions used.

Subscriptions & Billing

Sumac offers a free tier and a paid subscription ("Sumac Pro").

• Free tier: Limited recipe generations per month. Full access to saved recipes and core features.
• Sumac Pro: Unlimited generations, priority AI processing, and advanced features. Billed monthly or annually via Stripe.
• Cancellation: You may cancel your subscription at any time from your Settings page. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period. No refunds for partial periods.
• Price changes: We will notify you at least 30 days before any price increase. You can cancel before the new price takes effect.

Your Content

You retain ownership of any content you create or upload to Sumac, including custom recipes, notes, and preferences. By using the Service, you grant us a limited license to store, process, and display your content as needed to provide the Service to you. We do not claim ownership of your recipes or data.

Intellectual Property

The Sumac name, logo, design system, and software are owned by us and protected by copyright and trademark law. AI-generated recipe content created through the Service is provided for your personal use. The underlying AI models, algorithms, and Service infrastructure remain our property.

Privacy

Your privacy matters. Our Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights. By using Sumac, you agree to the data practices described in our Privacy Policy.

Third-Party Services

Sumac integrates with third-party services including Google Sign-In, Apple Sign-In, Stripe, and AI model providers. Your use of these services is subject to their respective terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the practices of third-party services.

Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components. AI-generated recipes are not a substitute for professional nutritional, medical, or dietary advice.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Sumac shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service, including but not limited to adverse reactions to recipe ingredients, data loss, or service interruptions. Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.

Termination

You may delete your account at any time from your Settings page. We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. We will delete your data within 30 days of account deletion, except where retention is required by law.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or an in-app notice at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use of Sumac after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Tennessee, United States, without regard to conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising from these Terms or the Service will be resolved in the courts of Shelby County, Tennessee.
